Walking away from professional hockey has to be one of the toughest decisions a person can make, sometimes players even decide to come out of retirement and return to play in different leagues. That was the case for Niklas Hjalmarsson, however now it sounds like his career is officially over.

Hjalmarsson originally came out of retirement a year ago to play with HV71 of the SHL. He captained the team last season before announcing his retirement once again.

Hjalmarsson, 36, played in the National Hockey League for 14 seasons split between the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes before returning to Sweden. In those 821 NHL games he had a total of 172 points including 25 goals and 147 assists. Last season he skated in 17 games with HV71 collecting just 3 assists.

Maybe the second time is the charm, all the best in retirement, Niklas!
