The Battle of Alberta is one of, if not that biggest rivalry in the NHL. The two teams are linked by not just proximity, but by the parallels between the teams in the standings. The Oilers and Flames likely play more meaningful games against one and other than any other team in the league.

So when they meet there are always some sort of fireworks. During the 3rd period of last night's game, Darnell Nurse landed a big hit in Dillon Dube. Mitchell McLain took notice and immediately dropped the gloves in defense of his teammate.

Unfortunately for both men the fight ended before either man could land any
serious shots. But with three minutes left in the game both men lined up against each other again and McLain immediately dropped his gloves while Nurse obliged.

Both men received fighting majors and were sent to the locker rooms. The Oilers went onto win the game 2-1. This season is likely to see another significant matchup with these teams. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Nazem Kadri and Evander Kane meet for the first time since Kadri was injured by Kane during the playoffs.
