The St. Louis Blues have announced that forward Brayden Schenn will be the 24th captain of the franchise.

Schenn has served as an alternate captain in St. Louis for the last three seasons and is signed long-term. The 32 year old signed an 8 year, $52M deal before the 2019 season. Schenn is under contract through the 2027-28 season at a $6.5M cap hit.

The 5th overall pick from 2009 succeeds Ryan O'Reilly who was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Schenn has been a sold contributor for the franchise since arriving in a 2017 trade from the Philadelphia Flyers. Last season he scored 21 goals and 65 points while playing in all 82 games.

Robert Thomas, Justin Faulk, and Colton Parayko have been named assistant captains as part of the Blues' leadership core.

The Blues are in a transition period currently after missing the playoffs last season. The roster will be more focused on the younger talent while looking at Schenn to lead the way.
