Brian Burke Lands New Role in League Outside of the NHL
BY TJ TUCKER AUGUST 11, 2023 (2:55 PM)
Burke has reportedly been hired as a "leader" and "guiding voice" for the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. Formed in 2019, the group aims to form a "sustainable and viable women's hockey league in North America." A new women's hockey league is expected to be up and running by January of 2024.
"The union, which ratified a collective bargaining agreement with new ownership in July, was previously guided by Hockey Hall of Famer Jayna Hefford, along with the PWHPA board which included Canadian and American national team veterans such as Hilary Knight, Brianne Jenner, Sarah Nurse, and Kendall Coyne-Schofield." - The Hockey News
Burke has held more roles with NHL teams that many others combined. He's served as GM of the Hartford Whalers, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Burke has also been President of Hockey Operations in Vancouver, Calgary and Pittsburgh. When not working in the NHL, he's usually working as a hockey analyst.
