Coyotes prospect lied to team about wanting to stay with team

There's only one current NHL team without a permanent arena, and the Arizona Coyotes are feeling the effects of their own massive shortcoming on all fronts. Not only does the team not make money, retain their own free agents, or sign outside players; now the Coyotes are struggling to even retain their prospects.

According to NHL insider Craig Morgan, prospect John Farinacci led on the team with intentions of staying with Coyotes after being drafted by the team in the third round of the 2019 NHL draft. However, both parties let negotiations wait, and Marinacci quickly signed with the Bruins upon becoming a free agent.


From Morgan's report, the Coyotes were shocked to find out that Marinacci left the organization. Moreover, the Coyotes were internally very high on Marinacci, and are stunned by losing him to the Bruins.


Marinacci's development as a player has been stunted by a cancelled COVID season and an offseason injury, but posted a respectable 5 goals and 7 points in 7 games of his World Juniors appearance, and has been touted for his mature, cerebral style of play.

It's another blow to an organization unable to act like a professional hockey team. After losing their arena bid in Tempe forcing them to stay in a university arena, now the Coyotes are losing their up and coming prospects, likely causing them to stay towards the basement of the league standings.
