David Krejci has reportedly Made his Decision on Whether to Retire

BY TJ TUCKER    AUGUST 2, 2023  (8:57 PM)
Just days after the retirement of Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins comes word that another member of the team has made his decision on whether to play next season. According to the latest report, David Krejci will soon announce his official retirement.

"Per an NHL source, longtime #NHLBruins center David Krejci will announce his retirement from the NHL and hockey in general 'very soon' but could still represent Czechia in the 2024 World Championships." - Jimmy Murphy

While not necessarily a surprise, Krejci's retirement creates an even bigger hole for the Bruins that isn't easy to fill. Much like Bergeron, Krejci still contributed offensively in 2022-23, scoring 16 goals and 56 points. There's also the leadership and experience he brings to the team that doesn't come along every day.

Krejci took the 2020-21 season off from the NHL in order to play in the top-tier Czech league at least one more time before he was unable to do so any longer. The 37-year-old has still played 1032 regular season games in the NHL, as well as another 160 in the playoffs. He has a Stanley Cup from Boston's win in 2011, and has bronze medals with Czechia in both the World Juniors and World Hockey championships.
