Fans accusing the NHL of rigging the Global Series in favor of the Maple Leafs
BY LIAM NOVEMBER 19, 2023 (0:07)
Over the week period spent in Sweden, all teams play two games. However, the Leafs are the only team to play two away games against teams playing in back-to-back matchups. This allows the Leafs and the league to not lose any of the revenue that the team would generate at home in Toronto, while also playing in front of very favorable crowds.
This way, the Leafs are the only team to retain two home games to bring in revenue, and have the most advantageous schedule in terms of playing against teams with rest considered, is definitely an advantage. Could it possibly be an oversight? Sure, but unlikely.
So far, they Leafs have won their first game in Sweden and will play their next - and the final game of the global series - tomorrow morning.
