Former 1st round pick calls it a career after 14 seasons

When he was drafted 11th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Jonathan Bernier was expected to be the next star goaltender. Unfortunately Bernier never reached his pre-draft projections. However, the goalie was able to carve out a very respectable career.

After 14 seasons with 6 different teams, Bernier has made the decision to hang up his pads.

Bernier took to his Instagram this morning to make the announcement.

After fourteen years, it's time for me to hang up the pads. @lakings, @mapleleafs, @anaheimducks, avalanche, @redwings and @njdevils enough for giving me the opportunity to play in the best league in the world and in front of the best fans in the game. There are no Words to express my gratitude to everyone who has been part of my hockey journey since day one, without all of you couldn't have done it.

To my lovely wife, kids and family, thank you for always being by my side through the ups and downs. You have always supported me and helped me achieve my childhood dream and be my biggest fans.

Now I'm heading into the next chapter of life - retirement.

Bernier ends his career having played 404 games and ends with a record of 165-163-40.

Congratulations on a great career.

Never forget one of Benier's biggest moments though.
