Former NHLer reportedly has KHL contract terminated for injury reasons

Just a few weeks after signing a one-year contract to remain with the KHL's Barys Astana, former National Hockey League forward Michael Chaput has had his contract terminated.

According to reports, the contract termination was mutual between Barys Astana and Chaput due to the fact he's going to need much longer to recover from an injury than was previously expected.

"#Barys Astana (#KHL) and forward 🇨🇦Michael Chaput have mutually cut ties just a few weeks after signing a new 1-year contract.

Chaput, 31, played just 10 games last season due to an ongoing injury. It was discovered that his recovery and rehab will take significantly longer than previously expected - resulting in the termination." Hockey Worldwide said in an Instagram post.

The Ile-Bizard, Quebec native went over to the KHL last season after playing parts of ten seasons professionally in North America between the NHL and AHL. In ten games with Barys Astana, Chaput had three goals, six penalty minutes and was a minus-three.

Chaput suited up in 182 games in the National Hockey League for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes, recording 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) and 88 penalty minutes.

It's unclear what will come next for Michael Chaput, but hopefully he'll make a swift recovery from his current injury and be able to play somewhere at some point next season.
