Gruesome details emerge about the injury that may end Ryan Ellis' career

The Philadelphia Flyers and Ryan Ellis have received the worst news in regards to the veteran defenseman's health.

Back in May it was speculated Ellis would be healthy and would be back in time for training camp. It was then reported that the Flyers were overhauling their medical department by Chuck Fletcher's directive, which may or may not have been part of the issue with diagnosing Ellis' initial injury.


Ellis hasn't played an NHL game since November of 2021, and despite hopes of getting better, his quality of life is being affected as well.



The muscle which is in question is called the Psoas of which little is known about, other than the muscle runs from the spine to the hip. This is the culprit for all the issues Ellis' has faced in his hip and core recently.

Along with the muscle being surgically inoperable due to the location, the damage to Ellis' hips has caused his hip and hip abductors to damage and hurt as a result of the injury. The torn psoas muscle hasn't just caused Ellis issues on the ice, it has caused significant issues off of it. The torn muscle has made everyday activities unbearable and caused him significant hardships. This has made simple tasks a strenuous activity.


It appears, Ellis career may be over if there is no resolution and no progress in his status. The Flyers were hopefully Ellis would be a part of the rebuild, but now it appears Ellis is simply focused on quality of life after hockey.
