Heartbreaking update on Toronto Maple Leafs' prospect who continues to battle cancer

At the time Amirov was on loan from the Leafs to Salavat UFA of the KHL. Amirov immediately began treatment for the tumor. Amirov has undergone surgery and has tried to remain positive about his battle with cancer. Today, Kyle Cush of The Score provided this heartbreaking update.
Amirov extended his loan with Salavat Yulaev Ufa in May, but there's been no legitimate indication that he'll return to play.
The loan is so Amirov can remain in Russia, have access to Ufa's staff, and be around the team. With what's public, it's unlikely he plays again

Throughout his entire battle of health Amirov has always held out hope he could someday return to the ice. With that now being a longshot, he continues to battle his illness. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Amirov as he continues this difficult battle.
