Hockey fans still mourning the loss of fan favourite goaltender
BY BRETT THOMAS WILLS JULY 16, 2023 (12:35)
Ray Emery, who played for the team from 2013 to 2015, passed away suddenly because of a drowning incident in Hamilton, Ontario, in July 2018. Emery, who was with a group of friends on a boat, jumped into the water around 6 AM that morning and failed to surface. Authorities were called immediately and his body was found around 3 PM that day, nine hours after he went missing. The police report afterwards showed it was simply a case of misadventure.
Emery had an interesting career in hockey and specifically in the National Hockey League. The 99th overall pick in the 2001 entry draft finished with 145 wins and 86 losses across eleven years with four NHL teams, including the aforementioned Senators and Flyers, the Anaheim Ducks, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Despite Emery's difficulties during his career, it is refreshing to see the hockey world continue to remember him and share memories 5 years after his passing
