Ilya Mikheyev Leaves Vancouver Canucks' Training Camp

The Vancouver Canucks have announced they are down a player at their training camp. The team says Ilya Mikheyev has left for 'personal reasons.'


Mikheyev came to training camp injured after undergoing season-ending knee surgery in January of this year. However, he was practicing with the Canucks' third group and was expected to move up over the weekend in a non-contact jersey. Why he left and when he'll be back is completely unclear at the moment.

Mikheyev had 13 goals and 28 points in 46 games with Vancouver last season before undergoing surgery. He had become a big part of the Canucks' penalty kill before he was shut down.


Mikheyev signed a four-year deal with the Canucks in 2022 worth $4.75 million per season. Before that, he played three seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs after spending several years in the KHL in Russia.
