BY COOPER GODIN    AUGUST 26, 2023  (8:20 PM)
After parts of 13 seasons in the National Hockey League, 35-year-old defenceman Jason Demers has decided to announce his retirement.

"95%. I'm right on the edge of retirement, if not retired." Demers said on the SJHN Podcast.

Demers went on to add that he's in talks with the NHL Network and NBC Sharks about a potential role on television and that he could make his retirement official next week by filing his papers with the league.

The Dorval, Quebec native appeared in 700 games in the National Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers where he had 214 points (45 goals, 169 assists), 407 penalty minutes and was a plus-30.

While playing in the KHL during the 2021-22 season, Demers was named to Canada's roster at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, putting up two points in five games as they lost to Sweden in the quarter-finals.

Congratulations to Jason Demers on a solid professional hockey career and all the best in retirement!
