When the off-season began it was expected that J.T. Miller
had played his last game as a Canuck. But as if now Miller remains a Vancouver Canuck, despite all the rumors this off-season. It was rumored a deal was nearly reached at this year's draft, but it appears the Canucks may have pivoted their priorities.
According to Satiar Shah, the two sides have been discussing a potential extension. But as of now, the two parties haven't been able to agree on contract value.
Losing a 1st line center for nothing is a bad idea given that the Canucks had succesfully rebounded under Boudreau's leadership last season. Miller who since the move from Tampa Bay to Vancouver, hasn't had a season under 30 points, will get a raise if not from Vancouver, it will be from someone else.
The 2021-2022 season, was a career year for the Ohio-born Canuck, putting up 99 points.
Miller's current contract comparables are Mika Zibanejad
for example, and Tomas Hertl
(who Miller outperformed and still got $65.1 Million dollar contract at 0.79 ppg).
However, it appears J.T. Miller
may end up a casualty of Jim Benning's spending spree, with Oliver-Eakman Larsson, and Tyler Myers
to sign, along with depth like Jason Dickinson
, Tucker Poolman
, and Tanner Pearson
Much like Chuck Fletcher left the Minnesota Wild in a terrible spot, Benning has a legacy, a terrible legacy in cap management.J.T. Miller
wants a long-term contract at six years, can Allvin and Rutherford make it work?
