was a member of the 2003 Team Canada World Juniors team. The same Team Canada team that is currently under investigation for a group sexual assault, which allegedly occured in a hotel at the tournament. It was been reported that Halifax Police have opened an investigation into this alleged event.
Since the allegations surfaced multiple members of the team have issued statements denying their involvement. Others have issued statements claiming they will cooperate fully with the investigation. Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, Carlo Colaiacovo, Jordin Tootoo and most recently Daniel Paillé have all denied involvement and knowledge of the situation.
Fleury recently participated in a charity event at the Videotron Center in Quebec City as a part of the Pro-Am Gagné-Bergeron. La Presse offered Fleury an opportunity to comment on the incident, but Fleury simply replied:
No comments, thank you.
Of the 22 members of the team, 21 went onto play in the NHL. Fleury remaining as the only player to still be active at this time.
Fleury's choice to not comment does not imply guilt or any involvement. This is just another example of media members asking questions at in appropriate times, because a charity event is not the time or place to ask this question.
It will be interesting to see if Fleury or his agent Allan Walsh issue any statement about this matter. If the claims are true and this incident was video taped, there will be no hiding the identity of anyone involved.
