Last night Jordan Binnington added to his reputation of being the most unhinged goaltender in the league. The Blues starting goalie intentionally threw a blocker shot at Ryan Hartman of the Minnesota Wild. The attack came after Hartman inadvertently bumped Binnington after scoring a go ahead goal. Binnington was then accused of striking a member of the Wild in the "nutsack" as Marc-Andre Fleury put it.

Earlier today the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Binnington would have a hearing for his actions. Now the league has announced Binnington will be out of action for 2 games for his involvement.

St. Louis' Jordan Binnington has been suspended for two games for Roughing/Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Minnesota's Ryan Hartman.

The NHL offered the following explanation for the suspension:

With the play long over and as the Wild celebrate the goal Binnington leaves the area of his crease, approaches the unsuspecting conduct and raises his blocker and stick to head level and strikes Hartman in the face with his blocker. This is roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct, what causes this play to rise to the level of a suspension is the act of a goaltender using his blocker in this manner, the retaliatory nature of the blow, the location and force of which it lands and the game circumstances of which it occurred. Recklessly entering an opponent's goal celebration long after the play has ended for the purposes of seeking retribution will not be tolerated.

Binnington has developed a reputation around the league, but has never been fined or suspended in his career. This will continue to add to his reputation around the league though.
