Newly-acquired prospect won't be signing with the Philadelphia Flyers

Earlier this week, Philadelphia and Carolina came together to complete a minor trade that saw the Flyers acquire Massimo Rizzo, a college prospect.

Rizzo was originally supposed to be involved in a Flyers-Hurricanes trade in late-June that would have sent Tony DeAngelo to Carolina. That trade was shot down due to a clause in the CBA stating that a player can not be sent back to their former team on retained salary within 12 months of originally being dealt.

DeAngelo was eventually placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout and signed with the Hurricanes when he became an unrestricted free agent.

According to Anthony SanFilippo, the Flyers have not talked to Rizzo about signing his entry-level contract and that he's likely going to be returning to the University of Denver for a third season.



The Flyers will retain Rizzo's signing rights, but it's appearing more and more likely that the main piece of the deal earlier this week was the fifth-round pick they also got from the Hurricanes. For Carolina, they received David Kase, who's unsigned and has spent the last two seasons in Czechia.
