Things get heated when a player breaks the code during a preseason game

The code in hockey is something that's been around forever. Hockey players use it as a way to govern each other on the ice, if the code gets broken, it more often than not results in a fight. Of course, these are unwritten rules that every hockey player knows: don't go after the goaltender, don't hit a player from behind, and don't cross the line during a stoppage in play to name a few. It's something that's dying in today's game, but, it looks like the code hasn't gone by the wayside just yet.

In a preseason game between the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Sudbury Wolves, things got rather heated when the code was broken by Wolves forward Landon McCallum when he appeared to rip off Alex Kostov's chain. Things got rather heated after that as you can imagine; take a look.



This all takes place with 40 seconds left in the first period. There are some things you just don't do, yanking someone's chain from around their neck is one of them. Kostov goes after McCallum and punches him in the face while it appears everyone else grabs a partner.

It seems despite junior hockey's best efforts, fighting is still alive and well in today's game.
