The Anaheim Ducks are set to open training camp this week without a pair of key players, Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale, who are both still unsigned and remain restricted free agents.
Is there a chance that the Anaheim Ducks move on from Trevor Zegras? It's highly unlikely given his importance to the franchise, but according to TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie, the Buffalo Sabres are reportedly interested in the 22-year-old.
Zegras, a native of Bedford, New York, is coming off the best season of his young career thus far, leading the Anaheim Ducks in points, assists and surprisingly, penalty minutes, while being tied for first in goals with Troy Terry. In 81 games, Zegras had 65 points (23 goals, 42 assists), 88 penalty minutes and was a minus-24.
If the Sabres are able to add Trevor Zegras, it would give their playoff hopes a huge boost and add to a young forward group that includes Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens and Payton Krebs among others.
According to CapFriendly, the Buffalo Sabres have $8.7 million available in cap space for the 2023-24 season, which should be more than enough to get a deal done with Zegras.
