Ducks forward Trevor Zegras benched following poor performances
Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras went the entire summer without a contract and even held out in part of training camp and the preseason before putting pen to paper on a three-year contract earlier this month.
So far for Zegras, his play this season has been quite poor, on both sides of the puck, but especially defensively and on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the 22-year-old found himself benched by Head Coach Greg Cronin, who only played the forward for 12:26.
"I don't care who you are, or how many points you put up, you're not immune to being glued to the bench." Cronin said.
Through six games this season, Zegras, who is expected to take a big step this year and play a big role offensively, has only recorded one assist and his play on the defensive side of the puck needs improvement quickly. In Anaheim's first six games, Zegras has made plenty of poor decisions, which normally wouldn't be this amplified if it wasn't for his lack of offense to start the season.
The Ducks hope Zegras will turn things around beginning tonight as they continue their four-game road trip with a stop at TD Garden to face the Boston Bruins.
