Ever since it became known that the Arizona Coyotes had lost a vote to build a new arena and entertainment district in Tempe, plenty of potential relocations sites have been mentioned. Those getting the most attention seem to be Kansas City, Houston, and Salt Lake City. If one NFL star has his way, they'll be coming to his town.
Kansas City has been in the NHL before. The Mavericks joined in the league in 1974, but were relocated to Denver in 1976 to become the Colorado Rockies. That team is now the New Jersey Devils. The Mavericks were resurrected in 2009 to play in the ECHL and have been there ever since. The ECHL is certainly a far cry from the NHL, though.
Mahomes' Tweet received thousands of likes by the time of this writing, and is climbing by the minute. Having a name like Mahomes in your corner can't hurt your chances of getting an NHL team. Both the NHL and Coyotes have confirmed the team will play in Mullett Arena in Tempe for the 2023-24 season. Whether a plan for the future will be ready before next season comes to an end remains to be seen.
