Before the 2023-24 National Hockey League season began, the league put a stop to all specialty nights, this included Pride and the use of Pride Tape on their sticks. Shortly after, some players announced that they didn't care and would still use it anyway, regardless of the punishment.

Yesterday when the Arizona Coyotes hosted the Anaheim Ducks, Coyotes defenceman Travis Dermott was spotted using the tape on his stick, the NHL issued the following response; take a look.
Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis Dermott used Pride tape on his stick in a game against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

When asked if Dermott would be fined or otherwise disciplined, the NHL told The Athletic in a statement: ‘We will review it in due course.' <\q>

According to The Athletic, the NHL's only comment on the matter was that they would review the issue in due course, while they haven't even outlined supposed discipline of any for breaking the new rule.

It'll be interesting to see how long it will take the NHL to review the matter and what exactly the punishment will be for players who break the rule, but it seems like they're using Dermott as a Guinea Pig.
