He proved to be a very popular player for the team, but the Boston Bruins seem to have moved on from re-signing one of their key acquisitions at the most recent NHL trade deadline. In an interview with reporters today, Bruins GM Don Sweeney said Dmitry Orlov is likely on his way out of Boston.
"Dmitry Orlov is unlikely to be re-signed, per Don Sweeney." - Fluto Shinzawa, The Athletic
Great Fit
Orlov put up good numbers from the blueline after being acquired by Boston in a three-way trade with the Washington Capitals and Minnesota Wild. In 23 games, he scored four goals and put up 17 points. He did not score any goals in the Bruins seven game series against the Florida Panthers, but did manage eight assists. Orlov seemed to just fit the Boston system and gel with teammates quickly
Orlov is a pending unrestricted free agent coming off a contract that carried an annual average value of $5.1 million. There are rumours the 31-year-old wants $6 million and up on his next deal, and there's a very good chance he finds it on the open market. Sweeney also has to negotiate with Tyler Bertuzzi and Garnet Hathaway if he wants to keep them in Boston.
