Bruins rookie drops the mitts in first career NHL game
The Boston Bruins played their first game of their 100th season in the National Hockey League against the Chicago Blackhawks. It was a night of firsts at TD Garden in Boston. Connor Bedard scored his first career NHL goals, while a Bruins rookie dropped the mitts in his first game.
Early in the third period, Boston Bruins rookie forward John Beecher dropped the mitts with Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson.
It was a spirited bout throughout, but it was the veteran who got the better of the rookie in this one, with Dickinson landing several strong blows to Beecher's head.
Dickinson's night would come to an end after the fight as he was handed two-minutes for instigating, a five-minute major for the tilt and a ten-minute misconduct. Meanwhile, Beecher was given five-minutes for fighting.
The Boston Bruins came away with the two points after a 3-1 win thanks to a two-goal night from David Pastrnak, along with a tally from Trent Frederic.
