Alec Regula, a 6-foot-4 defenseman, has yet to play a game this season due to an injury, but a new development suggests he will return to action soon.
The insider Elliotte Friedman shared the news with the following post on X:
The right-handed defenseman played mostly in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, scoring 26 points in 55 games last season.
If the defenseman can remain healthy, he could be useful in Boston down the road. With his size and his skills, he's likely to get called up in the NHL if an injury strikes the Bruins' defensive unit.
However, before that happens, he'll need to clear waivers.
Right-handed defensemen don't come around often on the waivers. With his $775,000 salary, many teams could be interested in grabbing him, such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, or Columbus Blue Jackets.
His fate will be revealed in 24 hours. It could be a long day for the Bruins fans as they wait for the daily waiver update.
Meanwhile, the Bruins will hit the ice tonight against one of the best teams in the NHL: the Winnipeg Jets.
