Brad Marchand Taunts and Silences Vancouver Canucks Fans After Scoring Under Heavy Boos
The Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand taunted the Vancouver Canucks fans after scoring a goal under heavy booing.
Yesterday, the Boston Bruins were in Vancouver to face the Canucks and were able to keep the momentum all night long to win 5-1.
The Bruins didn't waste any time before imposing their rhythm on their opponents.
Vancouver Canucks fans were eager to cheer for their team and were booing whenever the Bruins captain Brad Marchand was touching the puck.
Marchand obviously loved it. Five minutes into the first period, the captain scored a goal and taunted the crowd.
During a powerplay, Marchand scored and immediately put his hand to his ear, showing he was fueled by the constant booing.
Check out the goal and his celebration here:
After 15 seasons of being one of the most hated players in the NHL, Marchand is used to being booed during away games. He even seems to enjoy it.
Elliotte Friedman discussed the whole thing in a live intervention on Sportsnet yesterday, and stated that it was a bad idea to boo Marchand at the beginning of the game, as it only fuels players like him:
"Boston's had an awful week. They got destroyed in Winnipeg, they lost in Seattle 13-2 in the two games. And the moment they started booing Marchand at the beginning of the show, I was like, that's a bad idea.
I understand why the Canucks fans hate him. I understand why almost every fan base in the league hates him. But he thrives off that.
You knew when he heard he was getting booed, that was music to him and the perfect thing to get him and the Bruins going in this game."
Friedman knew right away that booing Marchand wasn't a good idea. The team was already motivated by a string of poor performances, and the boos made all players want to win even more.
The Bruins' next stop will be in Calgary on Tuesday. If the Flames fans want to help their team, booing Marchand won't be the solution.
