The Boston Bruins had one of their worst season in decades, nearing the bottom of the standings and missing the playoffs, and the team's fans are unhappy.
The franchise still celebrated centennial game ceremonies and 100th anniversary events, despite this, but underperformed expectations and disappointed fans and front office staff in turn.
So,
Jacobs spoke to the loyal Bruins faithful, whom he referred to as the best hockey fans. He has always admired such fans for being loyal to the team in good times and in bad times, especially with the team now facing an extended off-season.
The Bruins are committed to bringing a Stanley Cup back to Boston soon
In the future, Jacobs emphasized that the commitment to bringing another Stanley Cup to the city is never in question.
Even with recent seasons having been highlighted by sustained success, the organization is conscious that even more is expected.
The front office is already looking ahead to the NHL Draft, where the team is primed to make waves with one of their top draft picks in years.
With additional draft picks, along with room to add still more with free agency, the Bruins are also poised to give young prospects more opportunity to continue to develop.
Toughest roster choices were made this year, including letting go of fan favorites, but those choices, in Jacobs' words, were with an eye toward long-term success in this organization.
In simple terms, expectations are high, responsibility comes first, and bringing the Bruins to championship heights is already underway.
