The Boston Bruins haven't been at their best offensively this season, and with free agency looming, the team are now seemingly taking calls on Trent Frederic as they have a huge decision to make in the coming months.
For weeks now, it has been well known that the Boston Bruins have been taking plenty of calls on young forward Trent Frederic, with top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman noting that there's been plenty of interest around the league.
Now, he has addressed the situation again, and it appears with Boston not yet locking up the 26-year old forward, the interest from teams around the league is getting much stronger.
Frederic is in the final season of a two-year $4.6MM contract that expires on July 1st, 2025, at which time he will become an unrestricted free agent.
The teams calling on Frederic are asking if Boston intends to sign Frederic or what their thinking could be going forward.
After a career year a season ago, Frederic has seemingly taken a step back in 2024/25, but with great potential, it's clear that teams around the league believe he can be a solid bottom-six winger at the NHL level.
Through 38 games this season, Frederic has just 5 goals and 11 points, a far cry from the 18 goals and 40 points we saw a season ago, but with the shooting percentage taking a major drop, his production was bound to go down as well.
In his comments, Friedman hasn't yet noted whether or not the Bruins are open to moving him or where potential negotiations for a new contract are at, but this summer Frederic is set to hit free agency, and if the team aren't going to get a deal done, then trading him away for an asset makes perfect sense.
