Nikita Zadorov is an incredibly physical player, but sometimes he takes it too far as he did against the Red Wings on Saturday night with a late, dirty hit on Jonatan Berggren that drew the ire of fans and the players on the ice around him.
The NHL is all about the physicality, and when players have the size and the toughness to take down opponents, they should use that to their advantage, but ultimately, that always leads to less than ideal hits.
That was on full display on Saturday night as the Boston Bruins fell to the Detroit Red Wings, with Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov clearly feeling the frustrations of a poor game and a season that's been incredibly disappointing thus far.
During the game, he took that frustration out on Detroit's Jonatan Berggren with an incredibly late hit that sent him crashing into the boards in what appeared to be a very unnecessary play.
Unsurprisingly, the Red Wings weren't too happy about the act from Zadorov, and given that the puck wasn't anywhere near the play, the veteran blue liner was handed an interference penalty.
This however didn't lead to much retaliation, as the Red Wings let their play on the ice do the talking, with some fans on social media calling out Berggren's teammates for not doing more to stand up for him.
Ultimately, both teams have seemingly fallen out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs race, and while Detroit have a chance, this is a team that's got plenty of weaknesses, with toughness being one of those as this was the perfect example of a team not standing up for one of their teammates when they're hit with a very dirty hit from an opponent.
