NHL insider Chris Johnston made a shocking revelation about the Boston Bruins today, indicating that Don Sweeney may make a massive move.
As tomorrow's trade deadline rapidly approaches, every team around the NHL is now facing crunch time.
The Bruins are one of the teams in a tough position as they have not been good enough to be buyers, but they still have a legitimate chance at making the playoffs.
The team is only three points back of the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but they would have to leapfrog many teams to sneak in.
As such, it does seem more likely than not that they will be on the outside looking in come the playoffs.
Accordingly, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney is doing everything it might take to secure long-term success for his club.
Apparently, that includes potentially trading his captain
Brad Marchand.
NHL insider Chris Johnston reported on Insider Trading today that there is a 'very real' chance Marchand gets dealt before the deadline, and if anything, it seems more likely than not.
Johnston also revealed via X that the team remains in contract negotiations with him, but that teams calling about his availability "aren't being told no."
Marchand has appeared in 1090 career regular-season NHL games and another 157 playoff games.
He has 422 career goals and 976 points along with 1113 penalty minutes and a career rating of 284.
Few players have meant more to the Bruins in the entire team's history than Marchand has, but as with everything else in life, his time with the team will come to an end sooner or later.
