Rasmus Dahlin reportedly close to signing massive extension with Sabres
According to reports, the Buffalo Sabres are close to locking up a key piece of their organization, defenceman Rasmus Dahlin.
Once it's made official by the Sabres, which could happen any day now, the contract will reportedly be for eight-years and worth a whopping $84 million ($10.5 million AAV).
"Rasmus Dahlin's rumored extension in Buffalo is 8 years with an AAV of $10.5 million, per @AfterLeWhistle" B/R Open Ice said in a post on X.
Dahlin, 23, was selected first overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2018 and has quickly become one of the best defencemen in the entire National Hockey League. Last season, he took a huge step forward and set a new career-high in goals, assists and points.
The Lidkoping, Sweden native appeared in 78 games for the Sabres during the 2022-23 campaign, putting up 73 points (15 goals, 58 assists), 92 penalty minutes and was a plus-12.
There's no doubt that Dahlin will become a contender for the Norris Trophy every season going forward and will play a big role in helping the Buffalo Sabres reach the next step, as they look to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2011.
