According former NHLer and co-host of the After The Whistle podcast, Andrew Peters, Rasmus Dahlin isn't happy that his contract extension with the Sabres hasn't been completed.
Peters went on to add that the Sabres are seeking an eight-year deal, while Dahlin and his camp are leaning towards something more in the medium-term range, possibly five-years.
Dahlin, 23, became eligible to sign a contract extension back on July 1st and is set to enter the final year of his current deal that sees him earn $6 million. It's certainly understandable why the Sabres are wanting to lock him up long-term, because he's a big part of their future. It'll be interesting to see what happens on this front in the coming days and weeks as we lead up to the opening of training camps next week.
The Lidkoping, Sweden is quickly becoming one of the best defencemen in the National Hockey League and last season, he set a new career high in goals, assists and points. In 78 games, Dahlin had 73 points (15 goals, 58 assists), 92 penalty minutes and was a plus-12.
Apparently Rasmus Dahlin wants a 5yr deal and Sabres holding strong at 8.
