According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Calgary Flames have placed 31-year-old defenceman Jordan Oesterle on the waiver wire on Thursday for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.

"Placed on NHL waivers today: Jordan Oesterle (CGY)." Johnston said in a post on X.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned in his most recent '32 thoughts' article that the Flames were considering placing a veteran player on the waiver wire in order to shake things up amid their rough start to the 2023-24 season.

"7. An exec from another team said he heard that the Flames might rattle their room by putting a veteran player on waivers. That obviously hasn't happened." Friedman said.

Oesterle has appeared in 353 games in the National Hockey League across parts of ten seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Detroit Red Wings and now, the Calgary Flames.

Through four games this season with the Flames, the Dearborn Heights, Michigan native has failed to record any points or penalty minutes and has an even-rating. If he clears waivers on Friday afternoon, he'll be assigned to the American Hockey League's Calgary Wranglers.
