The NHL's 2023-24 season kicks off in exactly two weeks and in the opening month of the new campaign, the league already has one of their marquee events - the Heritage Classic.

This year, the Heritage Classic is returning to Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original game between the Oilers and Canadiens. But this time around, hockey fans are in for a treat as the Oilers will be facing the Calgary Flames, marking the first time that the Battle of Alberta will be played outdoors.

With the Heritage Classic nearly one month away, the Oilers and Flames both unveiled their uniforms for the event on Tuesday morning.

The Edmonton Oilers will be wearing a uniform inspired by the 1952 Edmonton Mercurys, who represented Canada at the Olympics that year and won the gold medal. Edmonton's uniform has a base colour of blue, with orange and white on the shoulders, striping on the sleeves and bottom of the jersey. To go along with the uniform, the Oilers will be wearing brown pants and gloves. An interesting feature of the jersey is that each player's number will be inside the oil drop on the front.

As for the Calgary Flames, they'll be wearing a uniform that is inspired by a minor league team from the 1950's and 1960's called the Stampeders. The uniforms two-toned colour-wise, with the main being off-white and red shoulders and striping. It features the Flames' logo and the words 'Calgary Flames' arched around the logo inside a red circle.

The 2023 Heritage Classic is set for Sunday, October 29th at 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. MT at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
