Calgary Flames Receiving Calls On defenseman Rasmus Andersson.
The Flames appeared committed to a a rebuild after trading off core pieces Noah Hanifin, Christopher Tanev Elias Lindholm and Andrew Mangiapane. Minute eating defenceman Rasmus Andersson is drawing interest around the league, will General Manager Craig Conroy cash in on another core member of the franchise?
The 27 year old, Sweden native produced 9 goals and 39 points last season. He lead the Flames in ice time, averaging 23:49 in TOI. Andersson is signed for two more seasons at a bargain cap hit of 4.55M AAV.
If Calgary is going to move their top defenceman it will only be for a massive haul. Rightfully so, Andersson has led the team back to back years in ice time, playing a crucial role on the Flames back end.
According to Puckpedia the Flames have just under $21M in available cap space. They are interested in taking back salary in exchange for prospects and draft picks.
With the Flames in the beginning of their rebuild, they will realistically not be a cup contenders for awhile, it may make sense to cash in on Andersson before he reaches free agency status at the age of 30 and could command a salary range of $8M on the open market.
