Rasmus Andersson appears to be on the move, and now one insider has proposed a shock deal with the Rangers that could interest the Calgary Flames.
The Calgary Flames had a major roster shakeup over the last 18 months, and now, it appears as though they'll use this off-season to make some changes as well as they continue to get younger around the core of Dustin Wolf and Zayne Parekh.
One piece they could move this summer is defenseman Rasmus Andersson, who has just one-year remaining on his current deal, and with the trajectory of the Flames, it stands to reason that they're looking to move off him rather than give him a long-term deal.
While they may prefer landing future draft capital in any deal with No. 4, one reporter from The Hockey Writers has now offered a different perspective, suggesting a shock one-for-one trade.
That would see Andersson moved to the New York Rangers for K'Andre Miller, in a deal that would help Calgary get younger, but also fill a spot on the left side of their defense, with the team needing help on the left as just Kevin Bahl presents as a top-four pairing defenseman on that side.
With Mackenzie Weegar, Parekh and Hunter Brzustewicz on their right side, the Flames are set for years to come, but with just Bahl on the left, this deal would make sense for Calgary, and for the Rangers, it gets them a huge asset back for a player that has seemingly underperformed in recent years.
It's unclear if Calgary would want a one-for-one deal with another NHLer, as some have suggested they would prefer prospects and/or draft picks in a deal for Andersson, but with the chance to land a 25-year old defenseman that fills a hole on the left side, this wouldn't be the worst deal for either team.
