Rod Brind'Amour recently revealed a major new detail about Mikko Rantanen's time in Carolina, but the Dallas Stars forward has now refuted everything he said.
There's been plenty said about Mikko Rantanen since he was traded to the Dallas Stars, and one comment came from Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour, who told the story that Rantanen told him he would not play for the team long-term upon arrival.
There's not been one guy that has left here because they didn't like it here - except for Mikko. He didn't not like it. When he showed up, he said 'there's four teams I'll go play for, well, you're not one of them.
However, it appears as though Rantanen didn't say that after all, as the now Dallas Stars forward has refuted that report, revealing that he didn't say that to Brind'Amour or anyone in the 'Canes organization.
Some things were said that I had a list of teams already when I went there, but that's false ... went there with an open mind, tried my best on the ice.
I want to make it clear, I was open-minded in Carolina and really thought about staying there.

This comes contrary to seemingly every report about Rantanen's time in Carolina, but now that he's in Dallas long-term and has his future set, there's seemingly no reason for him to lie about his arrival and his intentions in Carolina.
Ultimately though, the Hurricanes traded a haul to land him and got a young player in Logan Stankoven back, but whether or not Rantanen said this when he arrived, if GM Eric Tulsky and the organization could have their time over, there's a good chance that they wouldn't do this deal again if it was presented to them.
