Many expected Jalen Chatfield to face the consequences after his dangerous play on the ice, but now a top Insider has revealed that won't be happening.
During the play, Carolina's Chatfield swung McMichael around and slammed his head into the ice, and without a helmet on, many feared that this could lead to a major injury for the talented young forward.
However, top NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has now shockingly revealed that there won't be any supplemental punishment for the play from the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
This comes as a major shock, as intentionally slamming a players head without a helmet into the ice should be the very definition of putting a player in danger, and therefore a department that looks out for their safety should be all over this.
For whatever reason though, they've already deemed that this is not only not bad enough for a suspension, but the play didn't even warrant a fine, despite many players facing fines for doing significantly less to their opponents.
Ultimately, the inconsistency of the DoPS has been one of the biggest issues surrounding the NHL this season, and if a player doesn't even face a fine for slamming his opponents head into the ice, then there are very few things that should warrant a fine or a suspension, with fans simply wanting George Parros and the department to be consistent on these issues.
