Despite the excitement of Canada's 4-3 OT victory, star forward Nathan MacKinnon lashed out at the tournament format.
There is growing speculation that some new rules used in the 4 Nations Face-Off could have some influence on potential changes next season in the NHL.
MacKinnon, who tallied the first goal for Canada, complained about the 10-minute, three-on-three overtime period, stating it's simply too long. He believes anything over seven minutes would be too long for NHL regular-season contests.
Connor McDavid, on the other hand, appears to be supporting the 10-minute overtime period.
"I think it's a great kind of trial run," McDavid said of the 10-minute overtime. "Something I think the players liked, the fans liked it. It felt a little more like it's in our hands. I don't think really anyone wants it to go to a shootout, so good thing we were able to find one there."
MacKinnon had a couple of chances to win the game in the extra session, but it was Toronto Maple Leaf Mitch Marner who became Canada's overtime hero.
