The Colorado Avalanche are in a fantastic spot, being 7th in the league and 4th in the Western Conference. For that reason, they're being talked about possibly being buyers at the trade deadline. However, theymay do the complete opposite.

Young Avalanche defender, Bowen Byram, may be dealt at the trade deadline.

Bowen Byram is 22 years old and was selected 4th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Avalanche. Byram had a good first couple years and was quickly establishing himself as one of the best defensemen in the league for his young age. However, this year hasn't been the case. So far in 45 games, he has six goals and seven assists, tallying up to 13 points and a -7. A -7 is extremely off character for him, as he had a +7 the past two seasons.

Even though he is struggling, he can be a good top six defender and Colorado shouldn't give up on him so early. The Avs are currently contending for a Cup, yes, but he still is a big part of their future. Byram has already shown he can be a good defenseman, it'll be silly for them to trade him so early on in his career. He's only 22, hold on to him and let him play.

The only reason I could see the Avalanche wanting to move him is because of his concussion history and nearly ending his career because of it, but it seems early to give up on him
