So when a recent article from Heavy.com floated the idea of trading Robertson to the Toronto Maple Leafs, it raised a lot of eyebrows.
The suggested deal?
Toronto would receive Robertson, while Dallas would get veteran defenseman Morgan Rielly.
That's it.
No top prospect. No high pick. Just a straight one-for-one.

Jason Robertson isn't just a good forward.
He's a 40-goal scorer, a fan favourite, and a player entering his prime with multiple 80-point seasons already on his résumé.

He's had some strong playoff moments, but he doesn't fill a need in Dallas.
The Stars already have Miro Heiskanen, Thomas Harley, and a wave of younger blueliners ready to take on bigger roles.
Even Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos acknowledged the complexity of Robertson's next deal, but nothing about that justifies moving him for a piece that doesn't fit.
«The Stars need to be careful with how they handle Robertson,» Kypreos wrote.
Careful doesn't mean giving him away.
I think Dallas would be foolish to even entertain this.
This isn't NHL 26, this is real life, and franchise wingers like Robertson don't come around often.
