Craig Ludwig rips Dallas Stars' offense, says major shake-up could be coming
Craig Ludwig says Glen Gulutzan and the Dallas Stars must fix their predictable offense to finally win in the playoffs.
The Dallas Stars have the talent to make deep playoff runs, but one former player believes their offense still needs a major adjustment.
Craig Ludwig, a former Stanley Cup champion with Dallas, recently spoke about what the team must do to avoid repeating last season's frustrations on the DLLS STARS podcast.
After three straight Western Conference Final exits, he believes the team's attack needs more variety to be effective against elite opponents.
Craig Ludwig says the Dallas Stars can't rely on the same plays and must develop new offensive looks
In his recent interview, Ludwig explained the problem clearly.
« Hopefully that's what Glen Gulutzan was talking about, having 2-3 different ways to approach. You can't just keep throwing the same thing over and over again, because for 82 games and 2-3 rounds in the playoffs, » he said.
He pointed out how Edmonton, who eliminated Dallas twice in a row, found ways to completely shut down the Stars by exposing their lack of adjustments.
« Edmonton's coaching staff were figuring out exactly, if they already didn't, they figured out Dallas' strength. And the Stars were not able to make an adjustment. »
I think Ludwig's point makes sense, because the Stars' scoring often dries up in crucial playoff moments.
Secondary lines must contribute, and the power play needs to be unpredictable if Dallas wants to finally break through.
I agree that adding a new look or system could be the difference between another playoff heartbreak and a Stanley Cup Final berth.
