The Dallas Stars made an official decision on Matt Duchene's future as we get closer to free agency.

Following another disappointing elimination in the Western Conference Finals, the Dallas Stars made massive changes by firing Pete DeBoer as head coach, despite winning six playoff rounds over the past three years.
Many more changes were expected in Dallas, especially with the tight financial situation. A few players are set to become free agents in the coming weeks, including Matt Duchene.
In a new development, the organization announced its decision regarding the veteran forward.
Indeed, Duchene signed a four-year contract valued at 4.5 million a year with the Stars.
The team revealed the news in an official press release, in which General Manager Jim Nill provided comments:
"We are thrilled to have Matt back with our organization. As our team's leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community. The fit with Matt and our team has been seamless from the start, and we're looking forward to continuing to pursue our shared goal of bringing a championship to Dallas."
Duchene, 34, had the best season of his career, scoring 82 points, including 30 goals, in the 2024-25 season. However, in the playoffs, he only managed to score six points, with only one goal, in 18 games.
It'll be interesting to see how this decision will impact the team's roster. Despite the salary cap rising in the coming years, many rumors state that Jason Robertson could be on his way out. Putting nearly five million a year for a 34-year-old veteran who'll be 38 at the end of his deal over Robertson, who's only 25, could end up being a massive blunder from Nill, something fans aren't used to seeing him make.
