A few weeks ago, the Dallas Stars made a move that didn't make headlines, but it might end up being one of their most important depth decisions this offseason.

The Stars announced the signing of 23-year-old goaltender Remi Poirier to a two-year, two-way contract, securing the services of a player who has quietly become a cornerstone for their AHL affiliate in Cedar Park.
Poirier, drafted 185th overall in the sixth round of the 2020 draft, is a prime example of the organization's ability to develop talent beyond the top rounds. After three seasons in the system, he has emerged as a reliable netminder with both upside and personality, and his new deal ensures the pipeline stays strong.

Why Remi Poirier's new deal matters for Dallas Stars

Last season, Poirier played 31 games for the Texas Stars, posting a .908 save percentage and a 2.50 goals-against average.
He was even sharper in the playoffs, going 5-3-0 with a .919 save percentage, helping the team reach the Western Conference Finals before falling to Abbotsford.
March was his breakout moment. Poirier went 7-0-0 that month and was named AHL Goaltender of the Month, only the second goalie in Texas Stars history to earn the honor.
Fans also remember him for another March milestone, his rare and fiery goalie fight with Yaroslav Askarov back in 2023, a moment that instantly made him a fan favorite.
With that mix of steady performance and spark, Poirier has carved out a reputation as the perfect tandem goalie in Cedar Park - one who can step up in emergencies if Dallas needs a call-up.
General manager Jim Nill has built a reputation for finding value in places others might overlook, and Poirier is another example.
While he isn't expected to challenge Jake Oettinger anytime soon, his presence ensures Dallas has a reliable option developing behind the NHL starter.
I think this is exactly the kind of «quiet» move that keeps Dallas competitive over the long haul. It's not flashy, but signing Remi Poirier makes sure the Stars are covered in one of the most critical areas which is goaltending depth.
