Dallas's top prospect is dominating the competition at the World Junior Showcase

The World Junior Showcase is often a proving ground for top NHL prospects, but few have drawn as much buzz this summer as Dallas Stars forward Emil Hemming, who is quickly earning a reputation as one of Finland's most dangerous young talents.
Though Hemming sat out Finland's pre-tournament Vierumäki games to prepare for NHL training camp, he's wasted no time making an impact at the showcase, impressing scouts with his scoring touch, strength along the boards, and poise under pressure.
Several evaluators believe he is one of the prospects most likely to push for NHL minutes sooner than expected, thanks to his ability to contribute in multiple situations.
Finland coach Lauri Mikkola, reflecting on the team's silver medal run at the 2025 World Juniors, emphasized the motivation this group brings into the showcase:
«They're hungry. There's lots of the same guys we had last year, and I think knowing how close we came and how well we did, we really grew as a team. This team knows what they have to do.»

Hemming's choice to stay in Finland before the showcase to prepare for his first full NHL camp has only added to his intrigue. Mikkola explained:
«(Helenius and Hemming) are staying home to practice and want to be ready for NHL training camps. They have a long season ahead of them, so that's why they're staying in Finland.»
According to NHL.com, Hemming is one of the most closely watched prospects at the event, with several scouts comparing his two-way reliability and shot to established NHL contributors.
Even Sportsnet noted that his maturity and physical style could make him a top-six option in Dallas sooner than many expected.
