Matt Duchene had a fantastic year with the Dallas Stars, and now he's opened up on what he's seeking in a free agency deal this off-season.

The Dallas Stars had high hopes for their 2024/25 campaign, and while they defeated two key Central Division rivals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they once again fell short at the final hurdle before the Stanley Cup Finals.
Now, they've got some key decisions to make this summer in free agency, with veterans like Cody Ceci, Jamie Benn and Matt Duchene all off contract, with the team not being loaded with salary cap space.
As a result, it's unclear how many of those names that they can retain on more than one-year deals, and as for Duchene, the veteran has made it clear that he's looking for stability and a longer deal than that on the free agency market.
«As a family, my kids are getting to the point where you're looking for stability, so one-year deals are tough. I don't know what's going to transpire and I'll have to wait and see what's out here. I feel like I've hopefully put myself in a good position."
As for a potential return to Dallas, Duchene made it clear that he enjoyed his team with the Stars and would love to return to the team next season as they look to finally get over the hump.
«Like I said last year, I'm pretty open about it, I'd like to stay here and make it work. I'm in a little different place than I was last year, looking at things. I believe in this group and want to be here. I know how close we are, and I don't take that lightly.»

In 2024/25, Duchene tallied an impressive 30 goals and 82 points, a career high for the veteran, and with so much talent around him, it makes sense that he'd want to return and continue the form that he played with this past season, but for now, all he can do is wait and see what the free agency market brings.
