Mavrik Bourque sees a big chance coming with Dallas Stars
With Peter DeBoer gone and a one-year deal signed, Mavrik Bourque sees a real chance to prove himself and earn a bigger role with the Dallas Stars in 2025-26
The end of the Dallas Stars' playoff run didn't just close a chapter, it might have opened a new door for one of their most promising young forwards.
Mavrik Bourque didn't say anything controversial. But his words said enough.
With Peter DeBoer no longer behind the bench, the 23-year-old Quebec native made it clear that he's expecting something different in 2025-26.
He just signed a new one-year contract with the Stars.
After DeBoer's departure, Mavrik Bourque hopes for a bigger role with the Dallas Stars as he enters training camp with top-9 ambitions
« I don't think I've really had my chance the past few seasons », said Bourque during a golf event in Quebec.
He believes the short contract will keep him hungry, and he's approaching this season with a renewed sense of urgency.
I like that attitude. He's betting on himself, and I respect that.
« I showed more in the second half last year. With a better opportunity, it'll be up to me to take it », he added.
Bourque finished his first full NHL season recently and feels ready to take a bigger step.
He would like to center a line, but said he's willing to start on the wing in a top-9 role if needed.
Personally, I think Bourque deserves that chance, his patience has been admirable, and his development has been steady.
He's also putting in serious work this summer, training hard and aiming to add strength.
