Mikko Rantanen Makes History and Shatters NHL Playoff Record

The Dallas Stars clawed their way to victory against the Colorado Avalanche in round one, and on Wednesday, they picked up a huge 3-2 victory on the road against the Winnipeg Jets to steal a game and make that series 1-0 after one game.

While there were many contributing factors to the win, none were more impressive than Mikko Rantanen, who scored three goals in the second period to help Dallas to the 3-2 win.

After his third period hat-trick against the Colorado Avalanche, Rantanen became the first player in NHL history to tally a three goal period twice in the same Stanley Cup Playoffs run, making it even more impressive by doing it in back-to-back games.

Not only that, but he's been absolutely scorching hot as of late, tallying 8 goals and 14 points over his last four games, and with both Robertson and Heiskanen out of the lineup, his production simply defies belief at this point.

If the Stars are to go deep in the post-season, they'll need much more than just Rantanen to produce at a high level, but at this point, if he can keep up this goal scoring dominance, it will be tough for any team to slow down these Stars.

Ultimately, round one was a statement for Rantanen against his former team, and now, he's realized he has to put this team on his back to make a run at the Stanley Cup, and with the form he's in now, they may be the favourite to win the whole thing in 2025.
