Rasmus Andersson rejects massive contract offer, he will be traded

A key defenseman in the Western Conference could be changing teams soon, and the Dallas Stars would be wise to keep a close eye on the situation.
Rasmus Andersson, a longtime mainstay on the Calgary Flames blue line, is entering the final season of his contract and has reportedly turned down a massive extension offer from the team.
The 28-year-old told Swedish outlet Expressen that Calgary presented him with a deal so lucrative it would «take your breath away,» but he declined for personal and family reasons.
«No one has heard from me in a month and a half» , Andersson said, suggesting communication with the Flames has stalled completely.
Why the Dallas Stars should be paying attention
As
House of Hockey reports, Andersson's decision all but confirms a trade is coming, potentially before the 2026 deadline.
For the Stars, this isn't just another Western Conference rumor - Andersson has been linked to Dallas in past trade chatter, and his skill set would be an immediate fit in Jim Nill's roster blueprint.
A smooth-skating, right-shot defenseman who can log heavy minutes and contribute offensively, Andersson would slot perfectly alongside
Miro Heiskanen or give Dallas a lethal second pairing.
Acquiring him wouldn't be cheap, especially with speculation that his next deal could reach $8 million per year.
But if the Flames are looking for scoring help in return, it opens the door - however unlikely, to discussions involving bigger names, even potentially
Jason Robertson if his contract situation were to become complicated.
Personally, I think Nill will at least make the call. Dallas has a contending window right now, and a player like Andersson could be the kind of addition that tips a playoff series in their favor.
